Renewable Power & Heating - Renewable Heating

Radiant floor heating is a concept that has proven itself over the centuries. Heating pipes embedded in the floor or laid in the joist spaces heat the room from below, providing warmth where it is needed most - the living space within a few feet of the floor. The air at the ceiling is at a slightly lower temperature which makes sense since you do not want to send all your heated air up to the ceiling.

Concrete floors with radiant heating can be finished in many creative ways. Besides the traditional tile or hardwood, an acid stain finish can be applied to the concrete itself, as is shown in this photo of the floor in the Westview, which we designed and built in Aberdeen, Saskatchewan in 2005.

If you are renovating and infloor heating is not a convenient option, then a fan coil unit may do the job. This is a small radiator with a fan on it, which can be mounted on the wall as shown below, behind a cabinet kickplate as shown on the right, or under the floor so that all you see is the radiator cover, similar to normal register covers, which circulates the air in the room, as shown below right.
