Grid-tied combination renewable power system: 4.7 kW solar PV and 3.5 kW Raum wind turbine on a 70 foot guyed tower.
The owners of this system wanted to offset the costs of a geothermal heating system and their welding shop with renewable energy. Installation was completed at the beginning of October, 2010. Four months later the solar system had produced 1052 kWh over a particularly cloudy winter and the wind turbine had produced 1257 kWh in the same period. Production for solar power will be much higher in the summer and, with the net metering program in Saskatchewan, the excess power can be banked for the winter to offset the higher energy requirements of the geothermal system.

Grid-tied 3.56 solar power system on an acreage shop. The roof style and orientation on the house was not suitable for the solar installation, but the shop had a convenient south facing roof and wall. The owners were concerned about snow clearing in the winter, so the roof mounted panels are steeper to shed snow easily while the wall mounted panels are easily accessible.
